COLERIDGE — Coleridge ended the track season by taking a fifth and sixth place at the State Track Meet at Kearney.
This is the first time in 28 years that Coleridge has placed in the state meet since Chas. Steffen won the mile in 1942. Dave Fox started the action off by qualifying in the preliminary heat of the 100-yard dash. He finished sixth in the finals on Saturday. Ed Kalin tied for fifth place in the pole vault Saturday afternoon by vaulting 12 feet. This is a new school record and the third time this season Eddie has broken his own record. Looking over the 1970 season Coach Scholle remarked “We have moved along very well by breaking four school records and scoring at the state meet. The future looks bright for the Bulldogs as they definitely will be in top contention in the meets in 1971.” Scholle said such trackmen as Ed Kalin, Dave Fox, Marlin Kalin, Ron Brodersen and others could rewrite the record books for conference and county meets. Ron Brodersen won the Coleridge Intra-Squad meet by scoring 39 points. The meet is comprised of 11 events in which all the trackmen are eligible to enter.
