RANDOLPH - Last Saturday a radio receiving set was installed in the First National bank by Howard McEachen of the Wayne Normal.
The set consists of a regular radio “box” on which are the various dials for “tuning in” and regulating the affair. An auto battery furnishes the current for the light and two “B” batteries furnish current for other necessary working parts. The aerial is on the roof of the bank building.
On Sunday evening Mr. Stegge went into the bank to listen in and heard a part of the Memorial Sunday address given in Omaha and sent out by the broadcasting station there. The words came very clear and distinct. Mr. Stegge caught the address at about the last half and the next day saw an account of what he had heard the night before.
On Monday at 11:30 he received the market report as sent out from the Omaha Grain Exchange sending station and again at 12:30 came another market report very plain. Monday evening the markets were again given and the headpiece was adjusted to several visitors who could hear a voice, much like a station master calling trains, but giving the grain market of Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City and other places. The stock market was also given. After the evening market report two records were played on a phonograph and it came in so clear that one listener declared he could hear the faint scratching of the needle on the disc.
This is the first business house in Randolph to install a radiophone. The markets are given at 11:30 and 12:30 and again in the evening. The figures are taken and inquirers can get market dope up to the minute.
