OMAHA - The Wynot track teams took a pair of athletes to last weekend’s Class D Nebraska Track and Field Championships at Burke Stadium.
Track coach Lee Heimes loaded up Lane Heimes and Eliza Lange to compete in Omaha.
Lane Heimes, a sophomore, had a great first-ever state meet, finishing just outside the medals in ninth after clearing 6-feet-2-inches.
His mark of 6-02 was actually the fourth highest mark of the event which was won by Brock McCarter of Overton who cleared 6-08. Ben Meyer of Shelton was fourth at 6-02 and four other athletes tied for fifth at 6-02.
Heimes cleared the opening height of 5-08 on his first attempt, cleared
5-10 on his second and sailed over
6-0 on his first try. It took him three attempts to clear 6-02 which put him in ninth place Lange, a senior, ran in the 800-meters and posted a time of 2-minutes- 36.22-seconds which put her in the 22nd-spot in Class D.
Myleigh Weers of Diller-Odell won the 800 with a time of 2:20.87 with Shelby Schiene of Bertrand second at
2:21.68.
Dundy County-Stratton ran away with both of the team titles in Class D.
The DC-S boys bettered Axtell
87-62 while the girls outran Nebraska Christian 86-42.
