GENOA — The Hartington Post 4 Senior Legion Baseball Team hit the road for its season opener to take on Twin River, 10-2, in a game shortened to five innings by the 8-run rule on May 16.
After scoring a couple of runs in the top of the first inning, Post 4 erupted for seven runs in the second to realistically put the game away.
Tate Fischer opened the Hartington second with a single past the short stop when Easton Hochstein was hit by the Twin River pitcher.
Hudson Whitmire stepped to the plate and deposited a single into left field to drive in Fischer and send Hochstein to second.
Breiton Whitmire worked a walk to load the bases before Dylan Taylor rifled a ground ball past the third baseman scoring Hochstein and leaving the bases full of Post 4 runners.
Koby Detlefsen worked a walk to score Hudson Whitmire, Hunter Bensen walked to score Breiton Whitmire and Grady Haberer hit a fielder’s choice ground ball to score Taylor and leave Detlefsen and Bensen on third and second respectively.
A couple of more walks and a single sandwiched a strike out and a ground out and when the dust settled on the frame, the score was 9-1.
Twin river made it 9-2 in the bottom of the third with a run then Hartington added a run on a single by Hudson Whitmire to open the fifth and after a couple of strikeouts, back-to-back singles Detlefsen and Bensen plated Whitmire and the final score was set.
Detlefsen got the win on the hill, working three innings while allowing four hits, two runs and recording four strikeouts.
Hudson Whitmire paced the Post 4 offense going 3-for-3 at the plate, driving in two runs and scoring two runs.
