RANDOLPH - This community welcomed a quarter-inch rain on Tuesday and there were indications more might be received. Absence of wind the day following the rain greatly increased the benefit of moisture.
The rain was spotted and some sections near Randolph received more than in town, some received less, and in some nearby places there was no rain at all.
Pastures, which have been most affected by the lack of rain, were most benefitted by the showers Tuesday. Cattle have been placed in the yards during the shortage of rain and some farmers are running short of hay.
The weekly weather and crop report states 21 per cent of the corn was planted up to last weekend. Some farmers are waiting for rain before planting. Some of the alfalfa has been harvested. Much of the damage to oats can be remedied if rains are received.
