Swimming pool on schedule to open next week
HARTINGTON — The Hartington swimming pool crew is busy scrubbing, scheduling and setting everything up for its May 26 opener.
A lot of work goes into getting the pool ready for the new season, said Hartington Park Board member Wendy Wortmann.
‘’So many people work behind the scenes to get the pool up and going for the community,’’ she said.
The cleaning of the pool began Saturday and will continue through this week. There are a few minor updates planned at the facility, such as landscaping in the front of the pool and new umbrellas. The pool doors have already been painted.
City Councilman Chris Bartling, who oversees the pool, said some work has been done on the boiler and he has checked everything over for safety, to make sure it is all operating correctly.
The co-managers of the pool this summer are Meredith McGregor and Makenna Clarkson.
McGregor has been a lifeguard for five years and a manager for two. Clarkson has helped with managing the pool for four years, now.
The returning lifeguards for the upcoming season are Brynn Bernecker, Anisten Wortmann, Jared Rutar, Emily Climer and Breah Steffen.
New lifeguards this summer are Danielle Eickhoff, Alyson Huesers, Kinleigh Kramer, Kyson Lammers and Landon Rutar.
Swimming lessons helpers are Addison Walter, Kally Becker, Mara Bernecker and Shayla Heine.
The staff can't wait to get back to work for the summer.
Returning guard Brynn Bernecker said, “I am excited for the pool to be up and running again for the summer.”
Registration for swimming lessons was May 12. The dates for swimming lessons this summer are June 9-20, June 30-July 11, and the last session is July 21-Aug. 1.
Anyone that missed registration for swimming lessons, can sign up at the pool once it opens.
The managers have been busy doing office work and scheduling.
The hours for the pool are the same as years' past, Sunday-Friday, 1-5:30 p.m. and 6:30-8:30 p.m.; and Saturday, 1-5 p.m.
The cost to swim at the pool is $5 for an individual day pass and $4 for a night pass. A family pass for the day is $20. Season passes are also available for purchase at the pool. The cost for an individual is $75 and for a family is $125.
To keep abreast of any last minute changes to the pool hours or closures, area residents are urged to sign up for the city of Hartington’s text service.
