Trojans miss out on State trip by one stroke

NORFOLK - Wind, rain, cold, damp miserable conditions didn’t stop the Cedar Catholic golf team as it took to the Fair Play Golf Course May 19 in the C-3 District Golf Tournament.

The Trojans battled all of the elements and 16 teams to attempt to keep their season going.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t in the cards, or the scorecards, as Cedar Catholic fell one shot short of a team qualification for next week’s state tournament after carding a 337.

Norfolk Catholic comfortably won the meet with a 309 and Battle Creek was second at 325, but Pender took the final spot for the state meet with a 336.

The Trojans were actually tied at 337 with West Holt. William Brockhaus from Norfolk Catholic won the individual title with a 72, Cooper Wachholz of Pierce was second with a 76 and Tri County Northeast’s Ben Jorgensen placed third, also with a 76.

The story was as heartbreaking individually for Cedar Catholic as Toby Heine and Memphis Ulrich each posted 81 for the 18-hole tournament, a single stroke out of 10th which would have qualified them for state.

Maverick Heine was 26th with an 84, Langston Christensen carded a 91 and Landyn Keiser shot a 95.
