Cedar golfers settle for fifth place in conference showdown

BATTLE CREEK— Cedar Catholic rebounded from a rather disappointing performance in the Mid-State Conference Tournament May 6 in Ponca with a second-place effort in the Battle Creek Invite on May 8 as they prepare for the upcoming district meet.

Norfolk Catholic won both meets, taking the Battle Creek meet outshooting Cedar 317-328.

Battle Creek was third with 337 while Creighton placed fourth with 349.

Individually, Norfolk Catholic’s Will Brockhaus finished his third consective tournament under par, firing a 69 to take medalist honors while Cedar Catholic’s, Memphis Ulrich was second after posting a 75.

Trojans Toby and Mav Heine tied for seventh with a pair of 82’s, Langston Christensen shot an 89 and Landyn Kaiser recorded a 90.

Highland Oaks Golf Course was the site of the 2025 Mid-State Conference Golf Tournament Tuesday and the top two teams battled until the final putt was holed before a champion was crowned.

When the dust settled on the meet, Norfolk Catholic edged O’Neill, 308-310, to take the title and Knight sophomore, Will Brockhaus used a 68 to take medalist honors by four strokes over another sophomore, Ponca’s Landon Uthof.

The Trojans came short of getting into the medals and ended up fifth in the final standings after posting 342.

Toby and Mav Heine were the top two placers for Cedar Catholic after both shooting 83. Toby was 14th while Mav wound up 16 after a scorecard playoff.

Memphis Ulrich was 20th after firing an 85, Landyn Kaiser shot a 91 and Langston Christensen shot a 95.

The Trojans also fielded a junior varsity team in the meet. Henry Becker placed 31st with a 91, Dawson Dresden was 46th after carding a 96 and Hudson Dendinger shot a 102 which put him in 53rd.

Cedar Catholic will play in C-3 District Golf Tournament at Fair Play Golf Tournament in Norfolk hosted by Battle Creek on May 19
