Reifenrath claims Summit League honor after strong Drake performance

VERMILLON, S.D. — An area college athlete recently picked up some awards for her efforts at the Drake Relays.

University of South Dakota senior Sara Reifenrath claimed her first Drake Relays individual title by winning the 400-meters, and competed on two relays to claim the Kwik Star Summit League Women’s Outdoor Track Peak Performer of the Week award in April.

Reifenrath is now a ninetime Summit League Peak Performer of the Week, claiming her first honor of the 2024-25 season this week.

Reifenrath, a Cedar Catholic graduate, won the women’s 400-meters at the Blue Oval with a time of 53.63 seconds. That time was nearly a full second faster than the second-place time (54.62). Reifenrath also ran on the 4x100 team that took sixth in the prelims in a time of 46.11 and she ran on the 4x400 team that 3:42.32 in the Invitational section of the event.

Currently, Reifenrath holds the fastest time in the Summit League in the 400-meters and ran a leg of the fastest time in the Summit League in the 4x400 relays. South Dakota’s 4x100 time ranks fourth in the conference this season.
