Gratzfeld ties for medalist honors at GNAC meet

SUMMERLAND - The Hartington-Newcastle golf team teed it up in the Greater Northeast Activities Conference Tournament May 6 at Summerland Golf Course.

Hartington-Newcatle’s Kayne Gratzfeld tied Michael Koenig of Summerland for the low round of the day after each carded a 76, but Koenig took first after winning the first playoff hole.

Summerland won the team title with 337 strokes, West Holt was second with 346 and the Wildcats were third with 355.

“Overall we had a good day at the conference tournament,” said HNS coach Mike Johnson. “Kayne played really solid golf all day long.”

Carter Kelly just missed a medal, firing an 88 which put him in 12th. “Carter had a really good front nine and did a really good job of holding things together on the backside,” Johnson said. “He had four or five putts that lipped out.”

Barrett Bruning was next with a 94, Austin Sudbeck recorded a 97 and Grady Lammers brought a 114 into the clubhouse.”

“Barret and Austin had solid days for us as well,” the coach said. “We feel like we are starting to play some pretty solid golf at the right time of the season. we still need to get better from 150 yards and in and also need to become more consistent on the greens.”

The wildcats were set to play in the Randolph Invitational on May 12 before heading to Club 91 near Leigh for the D-2 District Golf Meet on May 19.
