RANDOLPH — A Humanities Nebraska speaker will be coming to Randolph on Monday May 12, to present her program “Promise in a New Land-Homesteading in Nebraska.”
Cherrie Beam-Callaway will portray Mariah Monahan, a Nebraska settler between 1847-1870.
Based on historical facts, Mariah and and her Irish brogue and period dress, captivates the audience in a first-person presentation.
The viewers are transported back in time to sail the ocean, walk the wagon trail, line in a dugout and fight prairie fires. Laugh and cry with stories of owning land, hard work, dancing, grasshoppers and becoming an American.
Beam-Callaway’s program is sponsored by the Humanities Nebraska and the Friends of the Lied Randolph Public Library and is free of charge.
It will take place at the Lied Randolph Public Library at 2 p.m. Monday, May 12.
Refreshments will be served by the Randolph Woman’s Club following the presentation.
Area residents are urged to take in this opportunity to hear about homesteading in Nebraska.
