Cardinal tracksters compete at conference

WINNEBAGO - The Randolph Cardinal and Lady Cardinal track teams competed in the Lewis & Clark Conference Track and Field Meet May 3 with the Cards ending up eighth and the Lady Cards ninth in the final team standings with 15 and 11 points respectively.

Creighton took the boys’ title in a very tight race with 101 points, just two points ahead of runner-up Homer and three points in front of third-place Bloomfield.

The Lady Knights won the girls’ title with 123 points, Tri County Northeast was second with 108.

For the Cardinals, Luke Harder had the top finish placing second in the high jump after clearing the bar at 6-feet even.

Tri County Northeast’s Jackson Belt also cleared 6-00, but Harder had fewer misses and brought home the silver medal.

Harder also earned a fourth place medal in triple jump after a best of 37-04, Brecken Shearer was sixth in the event after landing in the sand at 35-07.50.

Stewart Umberger used a heave of 41-09 which was good enough for fifth in the shot put.

The Lady Cards were paced by a couple of relays and a hurl by Mabel Ngebeh in the discus.

Ngebeh placed fourth, spinning the discus with a best throw of 101-2 for her fourth-place medal.

Abbey Backer was fifth in the long jump with a best of 14-08.25 while Brooke Meier was sixth in the 300 hurdles and teammate, Emilee Olson was right behind Backer in the triple jump, taking sixth .

The Lady Card 1,600-meter relay team of Gracie Wortman, Sydney Robinson, Meier and Jenna Guenther was fifth and the 400-meter squad of Olson, Ngebeh, Wortman and Backer came in sixth in that event.

Both teams are set to host their own invitational on May 8 before heading to the Class D-3 District Track and Field Meet on May 14 at Archangels Catholic School in Humphrey.
