Cardinal golfers earn runner-up finish at Pierce

PIERCE - The drives are flying and the putts are falling for the Randolph varsity golf team.

It seems the Randolph golfers are hitting their stride at the right time of the season as the Cardinals finished second in the teams race at the Pierce Invitational on May 3.

Cedar Catholic took home the big trophy after scoring 320 over 18 holes with the Cards next at 347.

Elkhorn Valley was two shots back at 349 and Hartington-Newcastle was fourth with 352, Shaw Backer and Bentley Reimers brought home some additional hardware.

Backer fired an 83 for sixth place and Reimers carded an 84 and wound up 10th individually.

Cedar Catholic’s Maverick Heine had the low round of the day as he fired a 71 to earn medalist honors.

Cooper Wachholtz of Pierce was second with a 75 and Talon Carson from Laurel-Concord-Coleridge used a 77 to finish third.

Ryan Engel shot an 89, Tate Broderson came in with a 91 and Logan Lienemann added a 110.

The Redbirds are scheduled to be back in action, May 9 at the Stanton Invitational before hosting their own invite on May 12.
