LAUREL — The Laurel Community Blood Drive recently proved that real heroes walk among us, as dedicated donors and volunteers came together to provide lifesaving blood donations to patients in need.
The event saw an incredible turnout, with 15 donors stepping up to give the gift of life. Thanks to their generosity, 17 units of blood were collected - enough to help up to 51 patients battling illness, injury, and medical emergencies.
Several area residents reached milestones at the last blood drive here.
Erica Diediker hit the five-gallon mark.
Bradley Erwin has now given nine gallons.
Chuck Sohler hit the 13-gallon mark.
Donald Diediker has now donated an impressive 16 gallons of blood.
The weight requirement for donors has been lowered to 110 lbs. The 180-day deferral for young female donors has been removed.
This means more heroes can step up and don their superhero cape to help those in need.
Organizers said they appreciate the efforts of Lisa Karnes for coordinating this event and to the Laurel Fire and Rescue Team for being the local headquarters for heroism.
