Lady Bears finish third at GNAC meet

ATKINSON - Atkinson West Holt’s girls’ and boys’ track teams ran away from the field in the first-ever Greater Northeast Activities Conference Track and Field Meet May 3.

The Huskies bettered Summerland 217-75 for the boys’ championship and the Lady Huskies outran Elkhorn Valley 205-82.5 for the girls’ title.

The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears placed seventh with 15 points while the Lady Bears came in third with 56.

Tali Erwin and Kate Tasler won conference titles for the Lady Bears individually.

Erwin used a 5-foot high jump to claim her gold medal and Tasler won the 1,600 with a time of 5-minutes, 45.90 seconds, Carlie Kvols was third in the 800 and Faith Galvin placed third in the 3,200 with teammate, Justice Olson right on her heels in fifth.

Taelynn Settje had a productive day placing fifth in the 100-meter dash, sixth in the 200 and sixth in the long jump for Laurel-Concord- Coleridge.

The Lady Bear relay squads were also successful.

The 3,200-meter team of Kvols, Tyler Recob, Olson and Tasler came in second, the 1,600 squad of Hattie Mc-Corkindale, Erwin, Recob and Kvols was third and the 400-meter team of McCorkindale, Settje, Grace Galvin and Laney Folkers placed fourth.

The Bears also found some points in the relays with the 1,600-meter team of Hunter McGhee, Carter Korth, Hunter Benson and Ian Sohler and the 3,200 quartet of Shane Langford, Sebastiaan Van Drongelen, Benson and Korth both teams placing fifth.

The 400 squad of Nathan Boysen, Weston Patefield, Benson and McGhee placed sixth.

Jaylen Carpenter used a 44’ 6.25” heave in the shot put to place third in the event, Preston Rose was fifth in the 1,600 while Langford was sixth in the 800 and 1,600-meters.

Kvols and Erwin competed in the Norfolk Classic on May 1 at Johnny Carson Field in Norfolk.

Erwin captured third in the high jump with a best of 5’ and Kvols was fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:31.25.

Both teams will run in the Winside Invitational on May 8 which will run at Haskell Field in Laurel before heading to the district track meet in Ponca on May 15.
