PIERCE - The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge golf team traveled to Pierce May 3 for the Pierce Invitational and Talon Carson made the most of his day on the course using a season-low round of 77 to take third place individually after a scorecard playoff with Hartington-Newcastle’s Kayne Gratzfeld who also came in with a 77.
Cedar Catholic won the team title after carding a total of 320, Randolph was second with a 347, Elkhorn Valley was third at 349 and the Wildcats were fourth with a 352. The Bears posted 359.
Maverick Heine from Cedar Catholic was the medalist after coming in with a 71, Cooper Wachholtz of Pierce was four shots back at 75 followed by Carson.
Luke Erwin was next for LCC after coming in with a 92. Tanner Thompson and Gibson Roberts each carded a 95 and Cade Johnson posted a 101.
Earlier in the week, the Bears traveled up to Hartington for the Hartington-Newcastle Invitational and finished with a 373 for 18 holes which placed them eighth in the team standings.
Cedar Catholic also won that meet after carding a 334, O’Neill was second at 336 and Creighton was third with a 339.
Jace Wahls from Ponca had the low round of the day with an 80, Cedar Catholic’s Langston Christensen was second with an 81 after a scorecard playoff with a couple of O’Neill Eagles.
Thompson paced LCC with an 84 which placed him 14th, Carson shot a 91, Johnson came in with a 98, Roberts was next at 100 and Erwin shot a 109.
The Bears were set for the GNAC Tournament on May 6 and will travel to Wayne for an invitational on May 8. They will head west for the Randolph Invitational on May 12.
