LAUREL—Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Johnson have received word that their son, Sgt. Ivan Nelson, who is stationed on Luzon, has been awarded the Distinguished Unit Badge and Combat Infantryman’s Badge. He has been overseas three years and has seen action in several major campaigns.

BELDEN—It has been announced by the war department that Sgt. Kenneth Harper has been liberated from a German prison camp after 13 months internment.
His wife is living in Lincoln.

BELDEN—S. 1/C Elmer Hoskinson, son of Mr. and Mrs.
L. C. Hoskinson, arrived home Wednesday on leave. He has been in the South Pacific serving on a destroyer. Enroute home he visited his brother, Lewis, who is with the coast guard in California and his sister, Mrs. Clara Weed, in Sioux City.

Lenora Macklem, has arrived safely somewhere in the Pacific.

ST. HELENA—Staff Sgt. Francis Lee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lee, is recovering satisfactorily at an army hospital at Topeka, Kans., from wounds he received on Luzon. Sgt.
Lee was shot through both hips and the abdomen. Mrs. Lee, Charlotte Lee, Allen Hirschman and Louis Lee visited him a week ago.

BELDEN—Word was received by Fred Smith that his son, Pvt.
Kenneth Smith, who has been a German war prisoner the past five months, was liberated.
He is now in a rest camp and expects to be home soon.

FORDYCE—Gerald Becker, S. 1/c, left Monday for Treasure Island, Calif., after spending a 15-day furlough at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Becker.

Harry Wallace received a telephone call from their son, Wellington, who had just returned to the states. He had been serving in Italy since the invasion and expects to receive a furlough soon.

WYNOT—Word was received that Pvt. Ivan L. Rankin, son of Mrs. Ethel Rankin, was wounded in action in Germany April 17. He is now in a hospital in England. He has been in the service three years and overseas twenty months.
