Reader: A state like Nebraska needs policies that won’t harm farmers

Letters from our R eaders

Letter to the Editor First and foremost, I want you to know I appreciate the job you do with the Cedar County News.

It’s a good balance of local and state issues. I am especially partial to Paul Hammel and his perspective.

Regarding his opinion piece (04-16-25) on tariffs…I couldn’t agree more. I ask myself, how is it the majority of Nebraskans voted for Trump when clearly Nebraska is a state dependent on agriculture?

Trump campaigned on tariffs, over and over again. Had the voters already forgotten how the 2018 tariffs played out? Are farmers suffering from short memories? Unfortunately most Economists agree of the outcome of tariffs (it’s not good.) The question is will the government bail the farmer out again if needed, and should they? If they don’t, do not be surprised. There is no complaining unless you’re part of the minority that voted against Trumps agenda.
