Trojans third in Mid-State, Lady Trojans place fourth

O’NEILL - The team titles went down to the wire at the Mid-State Conference Track and Field Championships May 3.

In the end, Boone Central scooted past Battle Creek to win the boys’ title 114-106 and Pierce won the girls’ championship by 1.33 points over the Bravettes.

The Cedar Catholic Trojans ended up third with 77 points in the boys’ standings while the Lady Trojans wound up fourth with 52.

Anisten Wortmann had a lot do with the Lady Trojans success on the day as she personally accounted for 30 individual points and added a leg in the 1.600-meter relay which finished third for another six points.

Lauren Bernecker added points in the 800 finishing second and Adelyn Reifenrath placed fifth in the triple jump.

The 1,600-meter relay team of Kally Becker, Brynn Bernecker, Lauren Bernecker and Wortmann did four laps in 4-minutes, 11.49-seconds which put them in third place and the 3,200 group of Becker, the Bernecker sisters and Claire Rolfes placed third in that event with a time of 10:04.05.

The Trojans scored a bunch of points in one event. The discus trio of Jared Rutar, Graham Potts and Sam Wiebelhaus swept the top three spots in that event to score 24 points for the team.

Aaron Wortmann used a season-best mark in the high jump to become a conference champion, clearing 6-feet.

Braeden Reifenrath was second in the 100 with Mason Baller taking sixth, Kighter Wortmann and Matthew Loecker placed third and fourth respectively in the 800.

Cooper Hochstein was sixth in the 400, Brady Hochstein was sixth in the long jump and Nolan Heimes placed sixth in the 300 hurdles.

The 3,200 relay quartet of Nolan Becker, Hunter Kuchta, Loecker and Kighter Wortmann won a conference title in that event with a time of 8:26.45. The Trojan 1,600 squad of Cooper Hochstein, Becker, Kuchta and Loecker placed fourth in the race.

The 400-meter relay team of Booker Hochstein, Cooper Hochstein. Baller and Reifenrath placed fifth with a time of 45.78 seconds.
