The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Elementary School recently hosted Literacy Night, planned and facilitated by the elementary staff as an opportunity to build strong connections with families and promote literacy skills in fun and creative ways. Crew Koch stopped by one of the stations to see how things work. Families rotated through a variety of engaging stations throughout the evening. Each of the stations was designed to spark imagination and foster joy for reading. The stations included:
•Fairytale Snacks (sponsored by PTO)
• Fairytale STEM Activities (Mrs. Kinkaid and Mrs. Gould) - Students built a house from legos, magnet tiles, or popsicle sticks to see if it could withstand the “Great Wolf.”
• Creativity Craft Station (Mrs. Wolfgram, Mrs. Fernau, and Mrs. Campbell) - decorated crowns and wands for fine princes and princesses
• Villain vs. Hero Debate (Mrs. Remm and Mrs. Peters) - Plead your case and bring your best debate of who is the better villain or superhero Fractured Fairytale Writing or Mad Libs (Mrs. Cross and Mrs. Brummels) - Fill in your best subjects, verbs, and adverbs to create a comical fairytale adventure
• Magic Potion Sight Word Hunt (Mrs. Koester, Mrs. Jean, and Mrs. Sheri) - Find sight words with your flashlight in the deep dark forest • Green Screen Fairytale Fun (Library Board and Mr. Bob) - Bring your best superhero or villain pose with these fun green screen backgrounds • Face Painting (hosted by Art Club)
