HNS boys track team earns third-place finish at Cedar Invitational

HARTINGTON — The Hartington-Newcastle Wildcats and Lady Wildcats competed in the Trojan Invitational Track and Field Meet April 15 at the Hartington-Community Athletic Complex.

The Wildcats finished third in the team race after posting 90 points on the day. The Lady Wildcats placed fifth in the team race with 67 points.

Cedar Catholic won the boys title with 135 points, Creighton was second with 98. Tri County Northeast won the girls championship with 107 points, Wausa was second with 99 followed by Crofton with 93 and the Lady Trojans with 83.

Carmen Buschkamp was the lone winner for the girls, winning the 3,200-meter run with a time of 13-minutes, 31.08-seconds and she also placed fourth in the 1,600.

Vayda Lippert had a productive day, placing third in the high jump and fourth in the 400 as did Ella Eickhoff who placed third in the 100 hurdles, fourth in the 300 hurdles and fourth in the pole vault.

Teammate, Hazel Hochstein was third in the vault and Jade Ford was second in the long jump.

Maddie Steffen earned a sixth-place finish in the 300 hurdles.

The Lady Wildcats scored 16 points in the relays sparked by the 1,600-meter team of Lippert, Eickhoff, Hochstein and Steffen which placed second with a time of 4:32.37.

The 3,200 quartet of Ell Haug, Jaden Opfer, Emily Climer and Buschkamp placed fourth and the 400-meter team of Haug, Opfer, Kloe Fischer and Kora Kneifl placed fifth.

Cole Rosener led the Wildcats with a busy and successful meet.

Rosener won the long jump and 400-meters as well as placing second in the 200.

Will Feilmeier won the 100 and Mason Krause was second in the long jump, third in the triple jump and fifth in the 200-meters.

Cole Heimes is vaulting back into shape, placing second in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 12-feet-1-inch.

Maximus McCray was second in the triple jump, Brayden Lammers was fifth in the high jump and Aidan Anderson came in sixth in the 3,200.

The HNS 400 meter relay squad of McCray, Rosener, Landon Clark and Cole Bensen was third as was the 3,200 team of Dane Gotch, Isaac Santiago, Cristopher Kneifl and Anderson.

The 1,600 team of McCray, Gotch, Jason Heimes and Ty Opfer was sixth.

Both teams will be heading to Pierce for an invitational on April 24.
