Hartington blood drive helps many in need

HARTINGTON — The Hartington community blood drive was a great success.

Dedicated donors and volunteers came together to provide lifesaving blood donations to approximately 87 people in need.

The event saw an incredible turnout, with 24 donors stepping up to donate 29 units blood.

Milestones were marked by four donors, Keith Stappert, two gallons; Karma Schulte, three gallons; Joann Woockman, 11 gallons; and Leo Burbach, 17 gallons.

The weight requirement for donors has been lowered to 110 lbs. and the 180-day deferral for young female donors has been removed. This means more donors can step up and donate blood.

Duane and Elaine Arens helped to coordinate this event that was hosted at the Hartington VFW.

The next Hartington community blood drive is 12:30-6 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church.
