This is a national organization that focuses on helping students develop leadership skills, gain personal growth, and build career readiness, all to insure success in their futures. At the same time, FCCLA focuses on the significance of both family and community.
STAR stands for Students Taking Action with Recognition. It is a competitive program where students compete at the district, state and national level. STAR allows FCCLA members to showcase and gain recognition for their skills, as well as talents, through numerous projects. Leadership, community service, career preparation and many other skills are discussed in STAR. FCCLA members create and put together projects that advocate for changes in their community. In doing this, they are displaying lifelong skills that demonstrate their knowledge and abilities regarding families, careers and their communities.
STAR can be done by students in 7-12th grade in various forms. Creating a project, presentation, and a speech are all the components that make up a STAR project, whether that be through a group or an individual. Both cooperative and individual projects can be competitive in STAR, which allows for every student to participate in a project specific to their personal goals. Each project is personalized and subject to the participants. This gives them the ability to build their real world skills such as problem solving, creative thinking, and public speaking.
While doing all of this, participants are able to gain recognition from the organization, and their community,
