WYNOT — The Wynot Blue Devils and the Plainview Pirates locked up in a real dogfight on Friday in Wynot’s Gym. The game was tied at 29-29 at halftime, but the Blue Devils were able to outlast the visiting Pirates in a back and forth second half to earn the 59-56 quality win.
Each team would have balanced scoring. Wynot had three players in double figures lead by Kasen Koch with 15 points. Andrew Haberman connected for 12 points and Killian Steinhaus hit for 10 points for Wynot. For Plainview Karter Lingenfelter lead all scorers with 17 points. Kohen Lingenfelter hit for 14 points and Wyatt Schroth added 10 points to the Pirates’ offense.
In the opening frame, Karter Lingenfelter hit for five points and Kohen Lingerfelter connected for four points as the Pirates raced to a 15-9 early advantage.
Kasen Koch hit for six points for Wynot and Nixon Heimes drained a three-pointer as Wynot stayed in touch.
In the second quarter the Lingenfelter boys each hit for five more points and Wyatt Schroth connected for a pair of baskets for the Pirates. Wynot would rally to tie the game at 29-29 at halftime thanks to nine big points from Andrew Haberman and a 3-pointer each from Devin Brummer, Kotner Koch and Kasen Koch.
After halftime both teams turned up the heat. Plainview got four points each from Wyatt Schroth and Carter Lingefelter, and a trey by Jacson King. Wynot did a little better thanks to sharp shooting from long range. Devin Brummer, Justin Heimes, Andrew Haberman and Carter Hans all hit from behind the arc, while Kasen Koch scored four points and Wynot built a 49-45 lead going into the final quarter.
In the deciding fourth quarter, Plainview tried to rally with Carter Lingenfelter and Rece Frahm both hitting 3-pointers. Wynot got six points from Killian Steinhaus and hit 4-6 free throws down the stretch to seal the 59- 53 hard fought win.
