RANDOLPH - The Randolph Lady Cardinal basketball team recently completed a very busy week, but remained winless on the 2024-25 campaign with three losses.
The Lady Cards were defeated by Wausa 56-14 to close out the week, lost to Homer 63-15 on Jan. 16, and opened the week with a 55-2 loss to Niobrara/Verdigre. All the losses were on the road.
Randolph traveled to Wausa Jan. 17 and the Lady Vikings proved to be inhospitable hosts, sprinting out to a 24-3 lead at the end of the first quarter and really never looking back on the way to a 56-14 win over the Lady Cardinals.
Delayne Thelen paced the Lady Cards with six points. Lilly Kuchta tacked on four while Kynlee Winkelbauer and Brooke Meier each had two points.
Winkelbauer pulled down seven rebounds on the evening and Meier grabbed five missed shots.
Kuchta added three steals and handed out three assists. Randolph traveled to the 11-1 Lady Knights of Homer on Jan. 16 and when the dust settled on the contest, the Lady Knights were 12-1 after downing the Lady Cards, 63-15.
The Lady Cardinals grabbed the early lead when Meier hit a runner in the paint to make it 2-0, but Homer responded from there and finished the opening eight minutes with a 24-3 advantage.
Thelen had a good evening , pouring in seven points in the contest to lead the Lady Cardinals in scoring.
Meier would finish with four, and Abbey Backer and Winkelbauer tacked on two apiece. Meier also pulled down eight rebounds, Backer had six and Winkelbauer recorded five caroms.
The Lady Cards could get nothing going on Jan. 14 when they took on now 10-3 Niobrara/Verdigre on the road, falling by the 55-2 final score.
Kuchta scored the lone basket for Randolph. The Lady Cardinals went looking for that elusive first win of the season on Jan. 21 when they traveled to Bloomfield. Their season will continue with a trip to Winnebago on Jan. 24.
