HARTINGTON — Cedar Catholic earned a 47-43 non-conference decision to hand West Holt its first loss of the season here Friday.
It marked the Trojans final game before the Christmas break. Earlier in the week, Cedar beat Norfolk Catholic, and fell to undefeated Crofton.
On Friday, the Lady Trojans trailed the Lady Huskies by two heading into the final frame but used a huge 13-7 fourth-quarter run to earn the four-point win and move to 4-2 on the year.
Cedar was led by a trio of double-figure scorers.
Lauren Bernecker led all athletes with 17 points, connecting on seven field goals and hitting 3-4 of her free throw attempts.
Addison Walter knocked down 16 counters, connecting on three three-pointers, and a pair of field goals, while hitting 3-4 from the free throw line.
Anisten Wortmann also hit double figures with 10 points. She hit on three field goals and made good on 4-7 from the line.
Cedar earned a 10-9 advantage in the first frame thanks to a pair of jumpers and a free throw from Bernecker, a trey from Addison Walter and a Wortmann field goal. Both teams connected for 12 second-quarter points, giving the Lady Trojans a narrow one-point lead at the break.
The Lady Huskies earned a 1512 scoring advantage in the third frame to take a 36-34 lead into the final stanza.
Lauren Bernecker hit for seven fourth-quarter points, while Walter and Wortmann both connected for three to lead the Cedar offense in the final frame. Cedar’s defense then limited the Huskies to just six points to earn the win.
On Tuesday, Cedar made the mistake of getting off to a slow start against one of the best C2 teams in the state.
Crofton raced out to a 22-10 first-quarter lead and coasted from there.
The Lady Trojans will next be in action Dec. 27 when they take on undefeated Pender in their Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout opener in Wayne.
