“Democracy is the government of the people, by the people, and for the people.” This is a quote by Abraham Lincoln. This quote tells us that everyone in America has a voice in a democracy. I feel my voice matters and will one day contribute to the improvement of society. I choose to use my voice in America’s democracy by honoring our veterans and educating myself on the important issues. We can not have a democracy if we are not free. Our freedom is protected everyday by our military and by the grace of God. I choose to use my voice in America’s democracy to honor veterans because of how much they have done for this country. Our brave military should be honored everyday for their dedication and sacrifice. Our military protects our freedom and provides us with a way to learn about history and the world around us. I have family in the military and it has inspired me to learn about America, our government, and democracy. If we do not protect democracy, we don’t honor the veterans who died for it. My cousin is in the Armed Forces and he served in Afghanistan for many years. His dedication taught me to not only love this country but learn how I can use my voice to protect it. Another way I chose to use my voice in America’s democracy is to educate myself on the important issues that face America so I can make educated decisions.
