Cedar grad receives SHAPE Health Teacher of the Year

OMAHA — Sherrie (Steffen) Brownfield was selected as the SHAPE Nebraska Health Teacher of the year in a ceremony held Nov. 3 in Omaha.

Brownfield teaches at the Lewis & Clark Middle School, Omaha. She teaches 30-35 students who struggle with varying abilities and language barriers.

“The students love the energy and positivity she brings to the classroom,” her nominator said. “Her lessons are made to challenge the students.” Brownfield was asked by the SHAPE National President to submit her application for National SHAPE Heath Education Teacher of the year. Brownfield is a 1991 graduate of Cedar Catholic High School and is the daughter of Chuck and Linda Steffen, Hartintgon.
