Laurel Tree Board plants Cottonwood tree for 20th anniversary

LAUREL — On Friday, Sept. 20, the Laurel Tree Board was joined by the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge School first and second grade students, teachers, along with Chris Wood, Community Forester, to plant a Cottonwood tree, which is the State of Nebraska Tree, to celebrate the Tree Board’s 21st anniversary.

The Tree Board’s anniversary was in 2023, but due to water restrictions, and being unable to find a Cottonwood tree to plant, the event was held off until the fall of 2024.

Wood talked about the importance of trees and shared tips on how to plant trees to give them the best start.

The LCC students were asked to each throw a scoop of dirt into the hole to help plant the Cottonwood.
