Woman dies in head-on collision on Hwy. 81

YANKTON, S.D. – A Yankton woman died following a collision on Highway 81 in Cedar County last week.

Deena Hansen, 60, died after her southbound vehicle attempted to pass two vehicles and collided with a northbound semi-truck driven by Monty Pieper, 61, Maywood.

Hansen was pronounced dead at the scene and Pieper was not injured, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.

The collision occurred at 11:05 a.m., Sept. 3, about four miles south of Yankton.

The Nebraska State Patrol was assisted at the scene by Cedar County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska Game & Parks, Crofton Fire Department and the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
