Local family participates in 4-H public speaking

HARTINGTON – Twenty-nine 4-H members were awarded ribbons at the 2024 Cedar County 4-H Public Speaking Contest held April 1, including three youth from Randolph.

HARTINGTON – Twenty-nine 4-H members were awarded ribbons at the 2024 Cedar County 4-H Public Speaking Contest held April 1, including three youth from Randolph.

In the Novice Speech Division, youth ages 8-11, who have never competed in the 4-H speech contest except as a Clover Kid, may recite a poem, read, or tell a story. Participants in the Novice Division included: Adam Miller, received a purple for reciting “The Cold Wet Calf”; Eli Miller, received a blue ribbon for reciting the story of “Standing Bear”; Lauren Miller, received a purple ribbon and the Novice Speech Division Champion Medal for her recitation of the story “A Biography”. The Miller children’s parents are Lucas and Becky Miller, Randolph.

The Public Speaking Contest medals were sponsored by First State Bank of Randolph along with other area sponsors. This year’s judges were Sarah Beckwith and Cara Wiebelhaus.
