HARTINGTON —For the past seven years, the Catholic Development Office has been able to send someone home with a brand new Ford vehicle from their yearly raffle fundraiser.

The vehicle for each raffle is donated by an anonymous donor.

Since its inception, the Development office has given away three Ford SUVs, three F-150s and a California edition Mustang.

“It is a fun event and it’s exciting,” said Joani Potts, development director for Cedar County Catholic schools.

This year’s prize is a loaded, white, 2013 Ford Explorer Limited Edition, valued at $48,295.

The Catholic Development office came up with the idea of a raffle in 2007 as a way to raise money for school improvement projects.

One particular project they are looking at is installing an air conditioning unit in the high school.

The prize in 2007 was a new Ford Expedition, with a sticker price of about $40,000. There were 820 tickets sold for $100 a piece netting the school $82,000.

And since then, ticket sales have gone up each year.

Selling for the event starts at the end of July or beginning of August depending on the date of the Homecoming game.

Tickets are sold by Cedar Catholic supporters, at local businesses, and at the parish and school offices.

The late Msgr. Werner usually did the honors of picking the winner at halftime of the Cedar Catholic Homecoming game.
