HARTINGTON—Gov. Mike Johanns will visit Hartington’s Leprino Dairy next week. Johanns’ plans to travel to Northeast Nebraska to learn more about the plight of farmers here.

HARTINGTON—Cedar Catholic and Hartington Public met last week on the football field for only the second time in school history. Cedar walked away from the historic event with a 35-3 win.

VERMILLION, S.D.—The Wynot Blue Devils and the Newcastle Raiders met for the duel in the Dome. Newcastles Casey McGhee had a hayday against the Devils, rushing for three touchdowns to lead the Raiders to a 52-36 win.

CREIGHTON—Cedar Catholic earned the Sub-District title and advanced to the District title game. The Lady Trojans improved to 16-7 with the wins. Cedar will now take on Laurel-Concord in the District championship contest.

LOUISVILLE, KY — Hartington FFA members turned some heads last week at the National FFA Convention here.
Jim Jansen of Hartington FFA Chapter, was named a national winner in the Agricultural Mechanics Repair and Maintenance Entrepreneurship Proficiency award program at the 78th National FFA Convention, Oct. 26-29.
Ryan A. Marsh was named a national finalist in the Fiber and/or Oil Crop Production Entrepreneurship/Placement Proficiency award program.
The Hartington FFA Dairy Judging team of Jared Koch, Brittany Weinandt, Caitlyn Hoesing and Stephanie Burbach also competed.
The team placed 14th in the nation. Individually, Jared Koch placed 20th, Stephanie Burbach was 26th, Caitlyn Hoesing was 33rd and Brittany Weinandt was 39th.

HARTINGTON — Sirka Papke’s first trip to school here was a long one.
From her home in Grimmen, Germany it took Sirka Papke 13 hours to arrive in New York City. It was another five hours before reaching Sioux City, Iowa.
From Sioux City it seemed a short trip to the home of Duane and Wanda Kruse, the host family she will live with until the end of June 2006.

HARTINGTON — Third District U.S. Congressional candidate John Hanson isn’t afraid to put on a few miles.
He plans to drive here Friday for a campaign stop. Since he announced his intention to run for the office being vacated by Congressman Tom Osbourne, Hanson has already put on over 20,000 mile crisscrossing the state.
Local supporters are planning a special coffee for him Friday at the VFW.

HARTINGTON — Cedar Catholic must defend against one of the best passing attacks in the state in second-round playoff action Wednesday at Russ Hochstein field.
Cedar will entertain Wisner-Pilger Wednesday for the second time this season.
The first time the two teams met, Cedar dominated the first half, putting up a 21-0 lead. The Gators chewed up big yards in the second half with an all-out passing attack and put up three scores of their own. Fortunately for Cedar, the Gators had trouble with their conversions, and Cedar escaped with a 21-19 win. Nov. 2, 2005

NEWCASTLE — The Wynot Blue Devils smelled upset in the air Thursday.
The Devils used a clock-eating ball control offense and a stingy defense to upset undefeated Newcastle 14-6 in their first round game of the state football playoffs Thursday.
The Blue Devils travel to Ewing to take on another Cinderella team, Ewing, 4-4, knocked off a 7-1 team — Butte.
