HARTINGTON — Several area residents have been startled by what they believe to be a mountain lion in the past several weeks.

On Sept. 27, Chuck Penning, UPS driver from Sioux City, Iowa had just turned south on Hwy. 15 at the junction of Highway 12/15 when he spotted a mountain lion crossing the highway. He was only about eight miles east of Bow Valley.

“I had turned south onto Highway 15, the lion was about 1/2 mile south of the junction,” he said. “The lion was about the size of a big black lab dog, maybe around 80 lbs.”
