HARTINGTON — Hartington attorney Duane Peterson was suspended from practicing law as of May 25.

Alisen Larsen, an attorney for the bar association, said the suspension was recommended after it was determined that several estates Peterson was handling had not been closed after several years.

HARTINGTON — The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality approved a $283,558 grant last week so a solid waste transfer station could be built near Hartington.

The city plans to use this facility as a solid waste transfer site and recycling center once the city-run landfill closes. The city must close the landfill by Oct. 1.

HARTINGTON — The Hartington Nursing Home Center was presented with the E-Award for excellence in service by its parent company Beverly Enterprises.

Tom Boerboom, vice president of Beverly Enterprises, presented the business with this award. Gayle Obermeyer, Donna Wiechelman, Doris Folkers and Rose Goeden accepted the award.

June 10, 1998

HARTINGTON — A man who pled guilty to escaping from the Cedar County jail in March was sentenced to six months in jail.

Joseph A. Murrill was charged with felony counts of escape, conspiracy, and criminal mischief from the March 29 incident, in which a piece of exercise equipment was thrown through a window at the jail.
