1989: Hoesing, Lammers earn West Catholic oratory honors

HARTINGTON — The portion of U.S. Highway 81 being patrolled under the State Patrol’s policing by objective program has been extended, according to the Patrol.
The PBO area now extends from the Nebraska/South Dakota border to two miles south of the junction of Highways 84 and 81.
The reason for the extension, according to the patrol, is that three fatalities were recorded in the area. Driving while intoxicated arrests on the 20-mile stretch of road have been increasing since the first of the year, according to the patrol.
Other violations, such as driving left of center, failure to yield the right-of-way and failure to stop at stop signs, also continue to occur, the patrol says. The number of turn signal violations is down somewhat.

HARTINGTON — Two young men have been selected to represent Hartington’s schools at Cornhusker Boy’s State in Lincoln this summer.
Troy Fluent, son of Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Fluent, will represent Hartington Public School. Bob Meyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Meyer, will represent Cedar Catholic.
