1973: Wolfe shows champion live hog at Laurel Market Hog Day Show

COLERIDGE — Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Janssen were honored for their 40th wedding anniversary Saturday evening at the Coleridge Community Building.
John Janssen of Joliet, Ill., registered the 200 relatives and friends who attended. Michelle and Brenda Janssen and Arlys Janssen had charge of the gifts. Mrs. Dean Nordby served the punch, Mrs. Jake Meier poured the coffee and Mrs. Gordon Janssen cut and served the anniversary cake.
Relatives and friends were present from Fremont, Norfolk, Carroll, Laurel, Dixon, Belden, Randolph, Ponca, Hartington and Coleridge.

COLERIDGE — First Class Awards Night was held Sunday evening by the Cadette Scouts at the Immanuel Lutheran Church basement.
The Flag Ceremony was given by the Junior Scouts with sergeant at arms, Cindy Arduser, Cadette. Karla Roth, Cadette, gave a Girl Scout Prayer. Guests were Scouts and their parents, Mrs. Henry Heitman, American Legion Auxiliary president and Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Asmussen and Cadettes from Ponca.

COLERIDGE — The new 1974 models of the Chrysler, Plymouth and Dodge automobiles go on display at Larry Cook Motors on Thursday.
Free coffee and cookies will be offered from 9 to 5 for those who wishe to view the new models.

COLERIDGE — Janet Marie, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Hahne, was baptized at the morning services at Immanuel Lutheran Church Sunday. Pastor Donald Schoeppler officiated and sponsors were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lewis of Hartington.

COLERIDGE — Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Anderson and Edwin Joslin returned home Saturday from a week’s trip to Illinois and Indiana. They visited in the Wilbur Copenhaver home at Center Point, Ia., and the Walter Copenhaver home at Mansfield, Ill. At Columbus, Ind., they visited with Mrs. Opal Joslin and Mrs. Mabel Barmes and at Anderson, Ind., with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wood.

COLERIDGE — Park View Haven Nursing Home won the first place Activities and Crafts Award at the 1973 Nebraska Nursing Home Association annual convention at the Holiday Inn in Omaha. Mrs. Millie Specht, activities director here featured the displays of crafts and diversional activity programs.
Attending the 26th annual convention from Coleridge were Administrator Gene Salazar, Dorothy Koudele R.N., Joann Franzen, Millie Specht and Nancy Cunningham.

COLERIDGE — Mr. and Mrs. Fred Meier attended the wedding of Michele Hoffman and Dan Peterson at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Plainview Saturday afternoon. They were host and hostess at the reception held in the high school auditorium. In the evening they were guests in the Ed Hoffman home.

COLERIDGE — LeRoy Wolfe of Coleridge showed the champion live hog in the Cross-bred division of the 7th annual Market Hog Day Show held at Laure on Monday, Sept. 17. He also showed the fourth place hog.
Reserve champion honors went to Rodney Bonderson of Emerson and third place went to Kathy Gustafson of Wakefield.

LAUREL — Mrs. Fred Burns will leave today for Omaha to meet her sister-in-law, Mrs. V. W. Stadds, of Santa Ana, Calif. They will join the Floyd Root tour there and travel through the New England states and Canada for 16 days.
