1959: Tornado rips through northern Knox County

CROFTON — A savage tornado battered a 12-mile strip northwest of here Saturday claiming the life of one man, injuring a housewife and spreading destruction in its wake.
Ed Conley, 75-year old pensioner, died of injuries in his trailer house on the Conrad Mormann farm 5 miles west of here.

RANDOLPH — State Safety Patrolman Leroy Hodtwalker said Wednesday that he has resigned from the patrol.
He is the fourth trooper in the Northeast Nebraska area to quit in recent months.

Farmers in Cedar county have signed 155 contracts to take land out of crop production and devote it to trees, grass, water or wildlife conservation uses, according to records in the county Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation office here.
