LAUREL — D. A. Webster, of the Laurel Bakery, was burning trash in the large metal can out back of the bakery when flames shot up in his face and badly burned him.

LAUREL — By defeating Hartington 9-4 Sunday, Laurel won the coveted Northeast Nebraska League Cup. Their final record is 15-1.
Aug. 18, 1948 LAUREL — V. J. Killeas was elected commander of the Laurel American Legion Post at the election held in Paulsen Hall. Other officers chosen were Darrell Dahl, vice-commander; Don Jewell, adjunct; Harold Macklem, finance officer; William Sydow, service officer, and Ivan Smith, sergeant-at-arms.
