1943: Ritchie will be closing his business doors

COLERIDGE — W. W. Wilcox and his wife returned Saturday from Rochester and Mrs. Wilcox is feeling pretty good considering having one operation for appendicitis and one for gall stones.

Aug. 18, 1938

COLERIDGE — A group of former Coleridge residents held a picnic and reunion at Recreation Park in California July 10. The group has been around for many years and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Wilson have been very active in it.

Aug. 19, 1943

COLERIDGE — After being in business for nearly 25 years, C. W. Ritchie is closing down his business for the duration of the war.

To mark the occassion, he held a big closing out sale and the store was opening evenings for the customers’ shopping convenience.

COLERIDGE — Pvt. James Woodard of Camp Wallace, Texas, has been enlisted in a specialist school to pursue a course in radio repair. James is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Woodard, Coleridge, and graduated from Coleridge High School in 1941.

Aug. 10, 1953

COLERIDGE — As a public service, the Coleridge Fire Department has purchased a hospital bed, wheel chair, and two pairs of crutches which are available for anyone in the Coleridge vicinity to use at no cost.

COLERIDGE — The Kansas-Nebraska Gas. Co. started laying gas lines in Coleridge Tuesday morning. A crew started work at the border station near St. Michael’s Church and moved northward. Aug. 20, 1953

COLERIDGE — Mrs. Tom Craig is the new third and fourth grade teacher at Coleridge School. She succeeds Miss Helen Leister.

Aug. 14, 1958

COLERIDGE — Miss Janice Hinrichs and Franklin Hefner were married Aug. 8 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Rev. Ludwig Scholl officiated the ceremony.
