HARTINGTON — H.B. Uhing of Hartington filed Saturday for the Democratic nomination for Sheriff of Cedar County.

He looks the part for the job he seeks. He is 6-1 and weighs 220-pounds without being fat, which is enough to discourage the criminal tendencies of most any bad man.

Uhing was born Dec. 9, 1888 on a farm near West Point in Cuming County and has spent most of his life close to the soil.

He began farming for himself in Cuming County, but moved to Cedar County in 1924. Here he bought a farm four and one half miles northeast of Hartington and lived there for six years.

In 1930, illness and hard times forced him to leave the farm and he moved to Hartington where he has lived for four years. Since moving to town, he has been employed by the county for whom he runs a highway maintainer out of Hartington.

He is married and has one small son. His qualifications include a wide acquaintance with Cedar County’s people and problems and experience as deputy sheriff on many occasions.
