1924: Wynot voters give their approval for school addition

HARTINGTON — More than 50 carloads of corn, which is valued at about $40,000, has been shipped out of Hartington so far in January. Jan. 24, 1924

WYNOT — By a vote of 112 to 46, the voters of Wynot favored the proposition to vote $26,000 bonds to be used in constructing an addition to the present school building there to meet the growing needs of the school. The election being held last Monday.

The fight for the new addition has been waged for some time, and the matter has been discussed thoroughly by the Wynot people prior to the election.

Public meetings have been held, at which the need for a new addition was emphasized, and at which those who opposed the additional school tax were also given a chance to express their opinions.

The proposed addition will be two stories high and will probably include a gymnasium and auditorium, class rooms, offices and other needed rooms.

The present building has been badly crowded this year, especially regarding the class rooms for the high school pupils.

Some classes are meeting in Supt. Sala’s office, while others have a very poor room in the basement.

HARTINGTON — Miss Fanny DeBow of Coleridge has been appointed as a member from Cedar County of the Coolidge Campaign Committee in Nebraska. J.J. McCarthy of Ponca has also been appointed as a member of the committee.

One member, Mrs. J.A. Doremus of Aurora, has the distinction of having been President Coolidge’s teacher during his school days in New England.

HARTINGTON — Reinholt Peters, a young farmer residing near Randolph, was found guilty of two counts of violating the liquor laws in Wayne County Court last Monday.

He has been before that court four previous times.

HARTINGTON — The Very Rev. Ferdinand Schnuettgen, D.D., V.F., Holy Trinity Catholic Church pastor, was named to three different positions.

They include the prosynodal examiners, rural deans and diocesan school.

HARTINGTON — All officers of the Cedar County German Farmers Insurance Co., were re-elected. They are Robert Schulte, president; John Noecker, vice president; J.A. Thoene, secretary, and Frank Kathol, treasurer.
