HARTINGTON — Yesterday morning a spectacle was witnessed here that is rarely seen in this part of the country at this time of year, that of a beautiful rainbow.

Nov. 11, 1920

HARTINGTON — An electric bell will at once be installed at the Franklin street crossing by the Omaha railroad.

The big concrete battery well arrived here Tuesday.

Other materials needed have been on the ground here for some time, now, but the work could not proceed until the concrete battery well arrived.

The electricians arrived in this community from St. Paul Wednesday and the work of installing the equipment will now be carried forward.

When the improvement is completed, the bell at the crossing will ring whenever trains approach it.

Nov. 11, 1920

HARTINGTON — The Hartington City Council is expected to take action next Tuesday on the petition signed by a large number of property owners asking that additional bonds in the sum of $25,000 be issued for the purpose of building a city auditorium.

The Council is expected to approve the request and arrange for the holding of a special election just as soon as possible.

Nov. 11, 1920

HARTINGTON — Patrons of the Crofton movie theatre had a narrow escape last Saturday night when the film they were watching ignited and the resulting fire destroyed the theatre building.

The films are made of celluloid and ignite very easily. Owing to the good-sized entrance to the building, the patrons were all able to escape.

The fire department responded to the scene quickly and friends and neighbors assisted in the work of saving the piano and equipment.

Both the building and the show were owned by George Lewis, who had them only partially insured.

Nov. 6, 1930

HARTINGTON — L.M. Hochstein and Alphonse Wieseler, while on a hunting trip, awoke in the night to find their tent was on fire.

Nov. 10, 1940

HARTINGTON — Dick Kramer, Cedar County’s 1940 cornhusking champion, recently placed seventh in the Nebraska state cornhusking contest.
