On Aug. 19, 1948, the Commercial Club sponsored Laurel‘s first “Harvest Jamboree.” On Aug. 12, a booster caravan visited a number of area towns to promote the upcoming celebration. The Advocate suggested that the cars in the caravan be decorated with signs or crepe paper streamers. The caravan included eight cars filled with boosters. They were accompanied by the Laurel band and a pickup equipped with a public address system to help spread the word.
