Helping the crops

Center-pivot irrigation systems deliver needed moisture to Cedar County crops during a growing season marked by below-normal rainfall and limited subsoil moisture. The irrigation equipment, shown from ground level, top, and from the air, has helped producers protect yield potential, while nonirrigated fields have depended on scattered summer rains. Recent rainfall has improved conditions, but it may have arrived too late to offset all of the earlier moisture stress.
