Wynot is well represented in Sertoma All Star game

HASTINGS — The West scored early and often at the 49th annual Sertoma 8-man All-Star Football Game played June 20 at Lloyd Wilson Field.

When the final gun sounded, the West team posted a 51-0 shutout over the East squad.

Wynot had two players and a coach involved in the game on the East Team and former Blue Devil Kotner Koch was named the offensive MVP for his team.

Koch was joined on the East by teammate Devin Brummer after the two hooked up a lot on the gridiron this past fall with Brummer hitting Koch in the passing game on their way to the state title. Their coach, Steve Heimes was also on hand on the East coaching staff.

“It was great they had one more game to play with each other,” said Heimes. “I wish them both a lot of success in their future endeavors.”

The duo connected 13 times for 265 yards in the state title game last November in the memorable clash with O’Neill St. Mary’s that produced a pile of offensive records with the Blue Devils cashing in on a 71-60 victory.

There wasn’t a lot of offense for the East in the Sertoma Game as the West defense and St. Mary’s Gage Hedstrom on offense dominating the contest.

“It was a great experience for all of us,” Heimes said. “We met a lot of great players and coaches from around the state. I was amazed at how many of the players were going on to play college football, wrestle and run track.”
