WAKEFIELD - The Hartington Post 4 Junior American Legion baseball team used a five RBI night by Rylan Fischer to turn away Wakefield at Eaton Field June 16 23-2 after defeating the Crofton Juniors 5-1 on June 10.
Hartington used 10 hits to score 23 runs in the game against Wakefield and used five RBI’s by Rylan Fischer. He posted three hits while driving in his five runs and scoring three himself.
Post 4 took control of the game from the first pitch, scoring six runs in the first then added one in the second to take a 7-0 lead into the Wakefield half of the second frame.
Post 81 looked to make a game of it after scoring a couple of runs in its half of the inning, but seven runs in the top of the third by Hartington and nine in the fourth shut the door on Wakefield and earned Post 4 the 23-2 win.
Hudson Whitmire went 2-for-4 on the evening and drove in four, Haberer was 2-for-2, both hits being triples and scored three runs.
Fischer was 3-for-3, drove in the five runs and also crossed the plate three times.
Post 4 traveled to Crofton to take on the unbeaten Crofton Juniors and broke open a 1-1 game in the final inning by scoring four runs.
Marcus Haberman opened the Hartington seventh with a single past the shortstop and Blake Bensen was put in to run for Haberman.
After a flyout, Whitmire stepped to the plate and delivered a single over the shortstop’s head leaving runners at first and second.
Gavin Klug smacked a double into left field which scored Bensen and put Whitmire on third.
Rylan Fischer singled after a strikeout to chase Whitmire and Klug home then Keaton Keiser doubled to drive in Fischer and after the dust settled on the at bat, Post 4 was up 5-1.
Klug, who pitched a gem, struck out the first two Crofton batters in the seventh then coerced a ground out back to himself for the final out.
Klug pitched all seven innings scattering six hits while allowing one run, issued no walks and struckout 16.
Post 4 will travel to Wisner to take on Wisner-Pilger/Howells-Dodge June 17 and will take on Ponca Post 117 at Felber Park on June 19.
