1956: Feilmeiers to open Frosty Treat Drive-in here

June 14, 1956

HARTINGTON -Twenty-one members of the Hartington high school class of 1936 held a reunion at the shelter house in Felber park Sunday.

This was the first time a class

reunion had been held. Including the husbands and families of the class there were 85 people at the reunion. Supt. and Mrs. C. A. Carkoski were guests. Supt. Carkoski gave a short talk. When the class was graduated Supt. Carkoski was coach at the public school and Mrs. Carkoski home economics instructor.

A picnic dinner was held and a social afternoon spent. There were originally 38 members of the class.

Class members attending were Mrs. Audrey McArdle of Pacific Palisades, Calif.; Henry Rolfs of Tucson, Ariz.; Mrs. Imogene Haines of What Cheer, Ia.; James Schindler of Fremont; Mrs. Ruth Stevens of Fort Dodge, Ia.; Kenneth Olsen of Lincoln; Mrs. Lillian Fauble of Council Blus, Ia.; Mrs. June Zersens of Pender; Lyle Heedum, enroute to Germany; Mrs. Cynthia Gamble, Wendell Heedum, Mrs. LaVerne Ramsey, Harold Peterson and Mrs. Berniece Dergan of Omaha; Mrs. Delores Strandberg and Vernon Jordan of Sioux City; Lloyd Morten, Mrs. Geraldine Mathiason, Mrs. Serine Hahn, Mrs. Edna Gardner and Mrs. Irene Mauch of Hartington.

HARTINGTON - Hartington’s newest business venture, a Frosty Treat Drive-in, will be opened here tomorrow (Friday) by Mr. and Mrs. Otto Feilmeier on Highway 15 at the south side of the city.

In staging their grand opening, the Feilmeiers will serve free root beer and frosty cones from 2 until 5 o’clock in the afternoon. The Frosty Treat place of business will be open daily from 11 a.m. until midnight.

The Feilmeiers have announced they will serve ice cream, frosty treats, sandwiches, cold drinks and Gillette dairy products. The new building constructed to house the business is completely equipped with the latest modern machinery. The beverage cooler is the first of its type to be installed in Nebraska.

HARTINGTON - An order will be filed in county court here for the merging of School District 85 with 107 Velna Weir, county superintendent of schools, reported.

A hearing on the proposed merger was held in the courthouse Tuesday. Residents of both districts petitioned for the merger.

Plans are to continue school in Liberty school house, 10 miles west of Hartington. Sunnyside school, in District 85, is a mile north of Liberty. There are about 21 pupils involved.
