City looking for help to maintain, improve cemetery

HARTINGTON — The city of Hartington agreed Monday to invest some money to make repairs and improvements at the city cemetery, but is hoping to find some volunteer groups to take on such projects in the future.

Mayor Mark Becker said the city always receives comments and suggestions after Memorial Day every year. This year it was noted several tombstones in the older part of the cemetery are leaning over or are in need of other repairs.

“It’s up to the people with relatives in the cemetery to maintain the gravestones, but in this case there are no longer any relat ives to take care of them,” Becker said.

Becker said he would like to see some volunteer groups help keep the cemetery looking nice.

‘’If there are some church groups that would like to step up and help us out for the people that used to be part of their church , that would be great,” he said.
