1946: Chamber plans special meeting to discuss city projects

June 6, 1946

HARTINGTON - Tim Haley, 6-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Haley, received a broken right leg in an unusual accident at his home Monday afternoon. The lad was playing beneath a tree into which a neighbor girl, Greta Rossiter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Rossiter, had climbed. The limb on which she was climbing broke, causing her to fall to the ground on top of Tim. His leg was fractured below the knee.

HARTINGTON - The number of World War II veterans who have filed their discharge records in Cedar county neared the 700 mark this week as nine more soldiers and sailors presented their papers at the county clerk’s office. The total filings (as of Thursday) is 1698.

Those filing discharge records were: HARTINGTON — Seaman 1-c James J. Meier.

RANDOLPH — Seaman 1-c Keith M. Boughan, Yeoman 2-c George D. Reed, Pvt. Raymond O’Neill, Seaman 1-c Paul D. Dittman.

WYNOT — T-5 Raynold L. Backman. FORDYCE — Sgt. Arthur B. Vornhagen, Storekeeper 3-c Lavern R. Feldhacker.

COLERIDGE — Cpl. Dale Dennis.

HARTINGTON- A new electric sign has been erected in front of the John Beuck Implement building. The sign, which is lighted by neon tubes, advertises the Beuck company and International Harvester machinery.

HARTINGTON- The Hartington chamber of commerce will hold a special dinner meeting at Chet’s Cafe June 10, to discuss proposed development projects for the city.

The airport and city park improvement proposals and other development projects will be discussed at length at the meeting.

Dr. W. E. Smith, president of the organization, urged that every chamber member attend the meeting so they can hear discussions on the proposed projects
